Apple Enhances Self Service Repair and System Configuration

Apple Expands Self Service Repair and Updates System Configuration Process

Apple has announced that its Self Service Repair program will be expanded to include the iPhone 14 lineup and additional Mac models, such as the 13-inch MacBook Air and MacBook Pro powered by M2. Starting from June 21, individuals with experience in electronic device repairs will have access to the same manuals, genuine Apple parts, and tools used at Apple Store locations and Apple Authorized Service Providers.

In addition to expanding the Self Service Repair program, Apple is making improvements to the System Configuration process used for iPhone repairs. This post-repair software tool ensures that repairs conducted with genuine Apple parts adhere to internationally recognized standards and are completed correctly. It also verifies that the parts are functioning properly. The System Configuration tool will be available for free to all Self Service Repair users and participating service providers in Apple repair programs.

Running the System Configuration tool after a repair guarantees the authenticity of Apple parts, updates firmware, and calibrates components for optimum performance and quality. For repairs involving biometric authentication, such as Touch ID or Face ID, System Configuration securely links the biometric sensors to the Secure Enclave on the logic board to protect device security and customer privacy.

To simplify the process, Self Service Repair users can now initiate System Configuration by entering Diagnostics mode on their devices and following the onscreen instructions. This means that users no longer need to contact the Self Service Repair support team for the final step of a repair. While the support team will still be available for assistance, users have greater autonomy with this new feature.

The availability of Self Service Repair will also be extended to include the True Depth camera and top speaker for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 lineups, as well as Mac desktops with M1 chips. These services will be accessible in select countries including the U.S., Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and the U.K.

Apple’s expansion of the Self Service Repair program reflects the company’s commitment to increasing access to repairs. By enabling widespread repair options, Apple aims to prolong the longevity of its products, benefiting both users and the environment. However, for individuals without experience in electronic device repairs, it is recommended to visit a professional authorized repair provider with certified technicians who use genuine Apple parts for the safest and most reliable repair experience.

Over the past three years, Apple has significantly expanded its service locations, including more than 4,500 Independent Repair Providers, to provide genuine Apple parts, tools, and training. The company’s global network of over 5,000 Apple Authorized Service Providers supports a staggering 100,000 active technicians, further enhancing accessibility to repairs for Apple users worldwide.
