Samsung Electronics has unveiled its latest tablet, the Galaxy Tab S9 series, which combines the functionalities of a smartphone and a laptop. The company has addressed the previous concerns of fragility and performance issues by enhancing the durability and power of its tablets with each generation.
The new Galaxy Tab S9 series boasts IP68-rated water- and dust-resistant capabilities, making it ideal for outdoor use. This certification ensures that the device can withstand the harshest elements, including water immersion of up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. Users no longer have to worry about using their tablets in damp locations or during outdoor activities.
Jingyu Hwang from the New Computing (NC) Mechanical R&D Group and Wooseok Ko from the Display Group at Samsung Electronics recently discussed the thought process behind the creation of the Galaxy Tab S9 series. Hwang, responsible for the mechanical structure and engineering, stated that previous water- or dust-resistant tablets compromised on other specifications. However, the Galaxy Tab S9 series offers high performance and a large screen, ensuring a seamless tablet experience anytime, anywhere.
Creating a water- and dust-resistant tablet without compromising on design was a challenge. Samsung employed various new technologies, including a redesigned internal structure and the development of new parts, to achieve this feat. Hwang explained that the water-resistant microphone and speaker were sealed using highly adhesive materials, while a dispensing method was used for the USB port.
Besides its durability, the Galaxy Tab S9 series promises exceptional image quality on its wide display. The tablets feature a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, previously found only in Samsung’s flagship smartphones and laptops. Wooseok Ko, responsible for the display development, shared that their focus was on enhancing the image quality for viewing photos, high-definition videos, and playing games.
The Galaxy Tab S9 series also introduces Vision Booster technology, which enhances screen visibility in any environment. Ko explained that the technology adjusts screen brightness and clarity based on external lighting conditions, ensuring optimal visibility of both bright and dark areas on the screen. The advanced algorithm references previous frames to maintain the same effect even during graphics-intensive activities such as gaming and movie-watching.
Samsung conducted meticulous testing throughout the development of the Galaxy Tab S9 series. The tablets underwent multiple stages of verification to achieve the IP68-rated water- and dust-resistant certification from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Additionally, the application of Vision Booster technology presented its own challenges, necessitating extensive testing in various conditions to ensure image quality and visibility.
