Electric Power Conversion Australia Plans Massive Production of Battery Electric Mining Trucks

EPCA, short for Electric Power Conversion Australia, gained recognition in Perth, Western Australia for its groundbreaking “Green Machine” project. This involved converting a CAT 777 100-ton haul truck from diesel to electric power. Following the success of the Green Machine, EPCA has announced plans to produce 50-70 more of these battery electric mining trucks annually.

Recently showcased at prominent mining events in Australia, the Green Machine’s conversion to battery electric power resulted in a significant increase in horsepower and torque. The truck now boasts 1,120 hp and 5,200 Nm of torque, making it one of the most powerful electric mining trucks in the world. The truck is powered by six 290 kWh Xerotech batteries, providing a total of 1740 kWh of energy storage.

Chief Engineer and Founder of EPCA, Clayton Franklin, expressed pride in the new truck, highlighting its high energy density and full battery-electric capabilities. With the mining industry showing an increasing interest in electric vehicles, the demand for these innovative trucks is expected to be high.

With thousands of mining trucks currently in operation in Australia and globally, EPCA aims to capture a portion of the market with its cutting-edge electric mining trucks. The company’s partnership with Xerotech will be crucial in ensuring the successful production of these trucks.

In conclusion, the shift towards electric vehicles in the mining industry is gaining momentum, with companies like EPCA leading the way with their innovative solutions. The potential for growth in the electric mining truck market is significant, and EPCA is well-positioned to capitalize on this emerging trend.
