Introducing the Aperture Science – 40 New Puzzles and 8 Hours of Gameplay

Portal fans have a reason to celebrate! The small team of developers at Second Face Software have recently released a new mod for Portal 2, offering over eight hours of original content to the game. Titled “Portal: Revolution,” the mod is available for free and is set to take players through an entirely new experience within the game’s narrative.

Chronologically, the mod’s events take place before those of Portal 2, in the dark and decaying Aperture facility. According to the developers, the mod features over 40 original puzzles that utilize new elements and leverage existing mechanics in a manner not featured in the base game. Players can expect to encounter a new laser cube variant, a gel cleansing field, the return of the “pneumatic diversity vent” element, and over 15 puzzles that exclusively use the blue Portal-Gun.

When discussing the mod’s difficulty level, the development team mentioned that it “starts where Portal 2 stops” but assures players that they will receive adequate education about new mechanics and tricks before being thrown into challenging puzzles. The puzzles have been rigorously play-tested to ensure they are not excessively difficult, with none requiring advanced tricky movement and only a few requiring portals to be fired mid-air.

Depending on players’ familiarity with Portal 2 mechanics, the mod offers a playtime of approximately five to eight hours. Originally slated for release on January 5, the mod faced minor delays after being submitted to Valve for review on December 20. The holidays slowed down the review process by just one day, but the mod has finally received the green light and is now available for players to enjoy.

Portal 2, released in 2011, is the successful successor to the original game from 2007. The series itself can be traced back to “Narbacular Drop,” a senior project by DigiPen Institute of Technology students. To further enhance the Portal gaming experience, the base game Portal 2 is currently available for $9.99 on Steam.

Overall, players and fans of the Portal series can anticipate an entirely new and engaging experience with the release of “Portal: Revolution.” The mod promises to challenge players with fresh puzzles and mechanics while providing an extended playtime. With the green light from Valve, fans can now immerse themselves in the exciting new content and dive back into the thrilling world of Portal.
