Philips launches portable UST triple-laser projector – Screeneo UL5 Smart on Indiegogo

Philips Projection has had success with its crowdfunding campaigns for the U4 and U5 laser projectors, and now they are back on Indiegogo with their latest offering – the Screeneo UL5 Smart. This is their first portable UST triple-laser projector, following the U5 which was a 4K UST projector. The UL5 Smart boasts a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and uses a DLP projection unit with a 0.23-in DMD working with a triple-laser light source for red, blue, and green colors.

With a throw ratio of 0.23:1, the UL5 Smart can project 35-inch visuals from just 7.2 inches away from the surface, or up to 120 inches from 24 inches away. The projector offers a brightness of 550 ANSI lumens and impressive color support with 200% of the Rec.709 gamut, 108% of the BT.2020, and 150% of the DCI-P3 space, as well as HDR10.

While the UL5 Smart is compact and lightweight, it does need to be plugged into a wall outlet to operate. It comes with 3-watt Dolby speakers, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, and runs on LuminOS with pre-loaded apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Disney Plus, and YouTube. The projector also features automatic focus adjustment, digital zoom, and manual keystone correction.

The Indiegogo campaign for the UL5 Smart is currently offering a perk level at €699 (approximately US$750), with an estimated shipping date starting from July. Philips Projection is a reputable company, making this campaign a safe bet for backers. The projector is expected to be available to regular consumers starting from October.
