Comcast, a leading provider of internet services, has long been criticized for its implementation of data caps, which impose limits on internet usage. This equates to an average of nearly 6 hours of 4K video streaming per day throughout a 30-day month.
For users seeking to avoid Comcast’s data caps, there are a few options available. Comcast offers select plans that come with unlimited data. However, it is important to note that this option is not applicable to Xfinity Internet customers on their Gigabit Pro tier of service, Signature+ More and Super+ More packages, Business Internet customers, Prepaid Internet subscribers, or those with Bulk Internet agreements. Starting from January 1, 2021, this unlimited data plan will be accessible nationwide.
Interestingly, Comcast enforces its data caps only in specific states, including CT, DE, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, PA, VA, VT, WV, the District of Columbia, and certain areas of NC and OH. Residents located in the Northeastern region, however, currently do not face data caps.
For those considering opting for unlimited data from Comcast, there are associated costs to consider. Comcast’s xFi Complete, which offers unlimited data along with their xFi Gateway, entails an additional fee of $25 per month. Presently, this $25 monthly charge is the sole means of acquiring unlimited data for customers residing in the aforementioned states.
To completely avoid Comcast’s data cap fees, users have two alternatives. Firstly, they can switch to an internet service provider that does not enforce data caps, such as Starlink, T-Mobile, or Verizon. Secondly, users can opt for HD-only streaming and closely monitor their data usage. At present, these are the only viable methods of evading additional charges for exceeding Comcast’s 1.2 TB data cap.
